The song Purple rain is stuck in my head for the past few days it reminded me of something, was at the music store a few months ago just browsing and stuff. I try to see if I can find some classic movies. There was this little girl who came in she was maybe eight or nine years old. “Prince, Prince” was all she was saying. Her grandfather stood by the counter talking on his cellphone while the kid followed the guy from the store around all the while rubbing her hands. I was a little shocked and a lot thrilled. Here was a nine year old being introduced to prince and his music and I was there to witness the moment (as if it was a major moment of some kind, I’m a sucker for moments) the guy found it and handed it to her, it was “musicology”. She sighed a kind of relief after he had handed it to her. Her grandfather then paid for it and they left the store and there I was, feeling like I was about to cry. God alone knows why but I was. I think about that incident every time I hear a prince song and I wonder if that kid ever heard and more of prince’s stuff, the early stuff like purple rain, when doves cry, kiss, nothing compare 2 u,1999.
